![]() photo by Andrew Hurlbut George Emlen conducts Conservatory CamerataGeorge Emlen carries on the tradition set by his conducting teacher Lorna Cooke de Varon when she retired as director of choral studies at NEC and started the Conservatory Camerata. The 16-voice adult chamber vocal ensemble operates under the auspices of the School of Continuing Education and attracts diverse singers who are looking for the challenge and experience of small-ensemble singing. Today, Emlen conducts songs of celebration, supplication, thanksgiving, mourning, and passage. Featuring choral works by Brahms, Britten, Casals, Fauré, La Rue, Persichetti, Rossi, Schütz, Tallis, and Vaughan Williams, as well as duets and lieder by Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Brahms. With NEC graduate piano performance student Andrei Baumann as piano accompanist. Free
