George Emlen conducts Conservatory Camerata

George Emlen carries on the tradition set by his conducting teacher Lorna Cooke de Varon when she retired as director of choral studies at NEC and started the Conservatory Camerata. The 16-voice adult chamber vocal ensemble operates under the auspices of the School of Continuing Education and attracts diverse singers who are looking for the challenge and experience of small-ensemble singing.

Today, Emlen conducts songs of celebration, supplication, thanksgiving, mourning, and passage. Featuring choral works by Brahms, Britten, Casals, Fauré, La Rue, Persichetti, Rossi, Schütz, Tallis, and Vaughan Williams, as well as duets and lieder by Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Brahms. With NEC graduate piano performance student Andrei Baumann as piano accompanist.

New England Conservatory's Class of 2008 and their friends present a concert designed and performed by them. Proceeds from this concert will constitute the first graduating class gift to NEC.

–Quintet in E-flat Major, K. 452 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by Sarah Huebsch ‘08, oboe; Alexis Lanz ‘08, clarinet; Nate Helgeson ‘08, bassoon; Raquel Jimenez ’08, horn; and Futaba Niekawa ‘07, piano

–Some Other Time by Bernstein/Comden/Green, Walk On By (arranged by Leah Hennessy '08) by Bacharach/David, and Blame it on the Sun and Wonder (arranged by Leah Hennessy '08) with Leah Hennessy ’08, voice; Vivek Patel ’08, trumpet; Tim Lienhard ’08, trombone; Eric Lane ’08, piano; Kai Ando ’08, bass; and Matt Rousseau ’08, drums
